A retirement visa is a residence or long-stay immigration option intended for people who can support themselves without relying on ordinary local employment. Many programmes have a minimum age requirement, which varies by country. Depending on the programme, eligibility may be based on pension or passive income, savings, a bank deposit or an investment. Most retirement visas do not permit local employment and are renewable, while some can eventually lead to permanent residence.
