Applicants generally need to demonstrate pension income of at least USD 1,000 per month, with an additional USD 250 required for each dependent. If the applicant purchases a residential property in Panama worth at least USD 100,000, the income requirement is reduced to USD 750 per month.
The program is particularly attractive because it provides permanent residence without requiring a substantial investment or the establishment of a business. Pensionado residents can also access a range of discounts in Panama, including on healthcare, transportation, hotels, restaurants and entertainment.
After five years of permanent residence, eligible residents may apply for Panamanian citizenship through naturalization, subject to meeting the applicable requirements. Citizenship is not automatic and is considered separately from residence under the Pensionado Program.
