Portugal Golden Visa Physical Presence Requirements
- Low physical presence requirement (14 days during the first two years and 21 days during the following three years)
- No language, education, or management requirements at the residency stage
Permanent Residency and Portuguese Citizenship After Five Years
- Eligibility to apply for permanent residency after five years, subject to legal requirements
- Eligibility to apply for Portuguese citizenship after five years, subject to applicable nationality laws
Portugal Golden Visa Eligibility Requirements
- Be over 18 years of age
- Be a non-EU / non-EEA national
- Make a qualifying investment in Portugal using funds from abroad
- Maintain the investment for a minimum of five years after issuance of the residence permit
- Have no outstanding debt to Portuguese authorities
- Hold a clean criminal record
- Maintain private health insurance
- Not have entered or stayed illegally in Portugal
- Obtain a Portuguese tax identification number and open a Portuguese bank account
- Meet minimum residency requirements of an average of seven days per year (or 14 days every two years), with at least seven days in the first year
Portugal Residency by Investment Options
Investment or Venture Capital Funds
- Minimum investment: EUR 500,000
- Investment in Portuguese investment or venture capital funds
- Fund maturity of at least five years
- At least 60% of investments allocated to companies headquartered in Portugal
Cultural Heritage Donation
- Minimum contribution: EUR 250,000
- Capital transfer applied to investment or support of:
- Artistic production
- Recovery or maintenance of national cultural heritage
- Contributions must be made through qualified public entities or private foundations with public utility status

Due Diligence and Application
- Obtain a Portuguese tax identification number
- Open a bank account in Portugal
- Complete the qualifying investment
- Prepare and submit all required documentation
- File the application with Portugal’s immigration authority, AIMA (Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum)
Approval and Biometrics
- Upon approval, the applicant must attend a biometric appointment in Portugal
- The residence permit is issued following biometric submission
Residency Permit Validity
- The Portugal Golden Visa residence permit is valid for two years
- It may be renewed every two years, subject to compliance with program conditions
Pathway to Permanent Residency and Citizenship
- Golden Visa holders may apply for:
- Permanent residency
- Portuguese citizenship
- After maintaining legal residency for five years, subject to meeting statutory requirements
